Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) is your proof of your ability to install, configure, operate, and troubleshoot medium-size route and switched networks, including implementation and verification of connections to remote sites in a WAN.
The CCNA curriculum includes a basic treatment of security threats, an introduction to wireless networking concepts and terminology, and performance-based skills. It also includes the use of these protocols: IP, EIGRP (Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol), Serial Line Interface Protocol Frame Relay, Routing Information Protocol Version 2 (RIPv2), VLANs, Ethernet, and Access Control Lists (ACLs).

Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) is your validation of the knowledge and skills required to install, configure and troubleshoot local and wide area networks with 100 to 500+ nodes.
A CCNP certification demonstrates the knowledge and skills needed to manage the routers and switches that form the network core, as well as edge applications that integrate voice, wireless, and security into the network.
The CCNP curriculum includes building scalable Cisco networks, Cisco multilayer switched networks, securing converged wide area networks, and optimizing converged networks.
In January 2010 Cisco® announced changes to the CCNP certification track. These changes ensure that the knowledge and skills gained reflect the skills that professional network engineers need to have. More emphasis is now placed on security, complex routing and switching (such as support for branch offices and mobile workers), as well as voice and video services.

Note: CCNA and CCNP certifications are valid for three years, after which candidates need to undergo a recertification process before the expiry date.
