Course Aims

The objective of this two-day training course is to provide delegates with a very strong insight into the concepts of project management and how to use Microsoft Project 2002 to its full potential.
Delegates who are new to project management will gain great benefit from the concepts and terminology phases of the course.   Following the course delegates will be able to produce high quality resource driven project plans and will have a solid basic understanding of the concepts of project management.

Who Should Attend?

This course has been designed for delegates who are new to Microsoft Project 2002. Existing users of Microsoft Project would benefit from this course if they consider that they need to increase their existing knowledge.
Note: No previous experience of either project management or the software is required, but delegates should have experience of using Microsoft Windows due to the interactive nature of the course.

Course Outline: Microsoft Project 2003 Introduction (2-day)

Project Management Concepts

A review of project management concepts in broad terms to enable delegates to have a clear understanding of the functionality of Microsoft Project 2003.

Terminology

The terminology used in project management is clearly explained. Including : Critical Path Analysis, Free Slack, Total Slack, Scheduling Methods, Duration-Work-Units, Milestones, Task Relationships, Lead and Lag times.

Software Overview

A review of the software to give delegates an overall view of the structure of Microsoft Project 2003.

Create a Timeline Project

A basic project plan is produced showing how to prepare a detailed sequence of events. This initial project will reinforce the topics covered in the Terminology section.

Resources

The key to using Microsoft Project 2003 to its full potential is understanding the relationship between resources and work. Resources are introduced to the case study project and a detailed investigation is then made reviewing how these resources impact the project plan.

Create a Resource Driven Project

Delegates produce a project plan driven by the availability of resources and estimated work required.

Calendars

A detailed review of Project and Resource Calendars shows how to maximise resource availability within your projects.

Project Consolidation

Covers the situation where several projects may be required to be inserted into one overall project.

Sharing Resources

Assignment of one pool of resources to multiple projects.

Base Planning and Tracking

Saving a copy of your original project plan and comparing actual progress against this plan is a very strong feature of the software, and is covered in detail.

Printing & Reports

Covers printing, reporting and customisation of reports.
