You will learn how to influence people with techniques of influence and methods of persuasion : how to inspire others, improve relationships and gain the support and co-operation of colleagues.

To give staff members appropriate tools to influence a range of situations at work, encouraging others to ‘give of their best’ and promoting workable compromises.

Course Outline: Influencing Relationships at Work

  • Communication – what it is and the benefits
  • Match communication methods to the content of the communication
  • Own personal communication style in business dealings with others
  • Creating impact with others, both face-to-face and on the telephone
  • Assertive, aggressive and passive behaviours
  • 3 steps to assertive behaviour to encourage others to ‘give of their best’ and to produce workable compromises
  • Importance of effective feedback and the E.E.C. model
  • Developing and maintaining rapport through body language and positive words/phrases
  • Active listening skills
  • Influencing hints, tips and tactics, including a ‘preparation’ template
  • Skill practice in dealing confidently with situations at work that require a degree of influence to promote a win-win situation

A feature of the workshop is the use of a Knowledge/Skill Checklist - a list of the knowledge and skills being developed.   Delegates rate themselves at the start and finish of the course to establish the extent to which they have benefited.   This also gives the delegate, and their line manager, further analysis of their strengths, highlighting any further development needs

  • Be more aware of one’s communication style, and how to adapt to suit the situation and/or the person
  • Produce more effective working relationships at work that promote ‘win-win’ outcomes
