Increasing Effectiveness for Supervisors and Line Managers

Remember that we're always here to help, so please ask us if you can't find what you want

One of the hardest moves to accomplish is the transition from being a team member to the position of team leader or supervisor. Supervisors are key members of the management team, and have the closest contact with the people at the operational end of the organisation. Anyone who moves to a supervisory or line management role is no longer on equal terms with their peers and has to earn their respect, show authority and leadership in new ways, sometimes while needing to make unpopular decisions.

Any supervisor needs to cope with the problems and complexities of the supervisor's role, but also take advantage of the possibilities and potential, enabling them to lead by example and so gain the trust and respect of their team. This is where professional training can make a huge difference to the performance of any supervisor – and their team.

Why is supervisor training needed?

If trained properly, a staff supervisor will be able to monitor and manage performance, provide constructive, effective feedback, handle delicate situations assertively, and mentor new personnel so they become valuable members of the team.

It is therefore important that supervisors receive adequate support and training so they maximise the performance of their team. Conversely, failure to ensure that they have the proper skills and knowledge to carry out their role can have a negative effect on the motivation and productivity of those whom they supervise.

The focus need not just be on new supervisors of course. People already in a supervisory role may not have had formal training, and allowing them to attend a course can provide focus and new perspective, even if as a "refresher".

How can Activia's courses help you?

Our Supervisor Skills training courses encompass all the essential elements of supervision and line management and will provide valuable guidance on effective performance and people management for anyone in a modern business environment.

Our courses enable people to become effective quickly, enabling them to understand how their role fits into the organisation and the importance of communication, leadership and motivation.

We don't simply cover generic supervisor skills: we also deliver specialised courses on team building and development, delegation and facilitation to provide all-round coverage of the skills needed for the effective supervision of staff.
