The first tendency for many people is to assume that negotiation skills relate primarily to selling (or buying) and while this is of course true, they also extend to many areas of working life and in personal life too. Generally speaking, negotiation is a discussion between two or more people who are aiming to reach a mutual agreement, so the purpose of negotiation, whether in a business environment or our day-to-day interactions, is to find an outcome that is acceptable to everyone involved. Without negotiation, there would be no proper understanding by the parties of each other's needs, which could lead to potential disputes in the future. From this, you can see that negotiation is not about getting your own way, but reaching an agreement that benefits everyone involved.

Attending a negotiation skills training course can help you to understand the different types of negotiators, the most important challenges to effective negotiation, and then learn how to formulate a plan for agreement.
